The 7 1/2 Secrets Of Boring Presentations

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Did you ever want to sleep during a presentation?

When asking people, most of them would agree they would love to. Boring presenters seem to be everywhere. Unfortunately! Here are the strategies of how to become a truly boring presenter:

1. They Talk to Themselves!

Did you ever talk to a mirror? Well, boring presenters kind of do that. They talk to themselves, their preparation sheet, their index cards or their PowerPoint. But they sure as hell don’t talk to the audience, especially NOT about something the audience might be interested in.

2. Their DNA is “BOREDOM”!

Did you ever get some good sleep during a presentation? oring Presenters are naturally boring. They speak with a monotone voice that sends almost everyone in the room to the sleep. And if their presentation were a movie it would be a “still-film”. Good sleep guaranteed!

3. They Talk About the World, But Don’t Get to The Point!

Boring presenters have a lot to tell, but no one gets what they’re really saying. Boring presenters are excellent at confusing the audience with too much data that is linked to only one thing: NOTHING! In the end no one understands the purpose of their presentation and they achieve no result.

4. Their Preparation Sucks!

Boring presenters prepare their presentation often in confusing detail, so that they themselves cannot follow where they’re at in the presentation. Even if they contents is fine, they forgot the most important of all preparations: actual presentation practice of the material.

5. They Main Movement is Their Mouth

Imagine you watched an action movie where all that people do is move their mouth? No too interesting is it? Unfortunately that’s exactly what boring presenters do. They stand and move their mouth. Not their body. Not their hands. Not their stand. Yes, how GREAT: their mouth only.

6. Their Audience Has to “SHUT UP & LISTEN!”

If you met a friend for dinner and s/he told you to just ‘Shut up and listen to me for the next 2 hours’, the person probably wouldn’t be your friend anymore. Boring presenters naturally get you to shut up and listen sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes for 1 hour, sometimes for 1 day, sometimes for 1 year. It’s time for a change!

7. Their Audience Thinks at the End: “What a waste of time!”

Boring presenters are true naturals when it comes to sending the audience out thinking it wasn’t worth it. After a boring presenters presentation nobody does or thinks different in any way. There is no change. Looking back the audience believes it was a waste of time.

7 1/2 Their PowerPoint Looks Like a Newspaper

Boring presenters are “Power Point Artists”. Their presentations are filled with fill words to fill the whole slide and make it look full. Most audiences respond with excitement to the ‘newspaper-like slides’. At least that’s what boring presenters hope!

Entrepreneurship and the Business Environment

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Everywhere you turn nowadays, you always hear about venturing into entrepreneurship. But what is entrepreneurship exactly? It is actually defined as the process wherein a group or an individual makes an effort to pursue opportunities to satisfy needs and wants through uniqueness and innovation. Some people have the misconception that entrepreneurs are gamblers in the sense that they take risks and invest in industries that have no record of success. However, the truth is, these entrepreneurs take calculated risks that have the potential to provide them with huge returns.

The key factors you need to remember about entrepreneurship are opportunities, innovation, and growth. An entrepreneur sees opportunities in environmental trends and changes that nobody has seen before and pursues this opportunity with whatever resources he has at hand. The second theme in entrepreneurship is innovation which involves transforming and revolutionizing existing products or services to cope up with the changing global environment. The third theme is growth; this involves the continual efforts of an entrepreneur to expand his business locally and internationally. An entrepreneur is on the constant look out on how to create new approaches to make his business grow and become a huge success.

These themes are the key factors which businesses are founded upon. The largest corporations you find today did not start out big, rather they started out as small enterprises by visionaries who want more than what is offered to them. You can see from the history of some of the most successful business today that the founders of these businesses have taken great leaps of faith and incredible amounts of risks in order to be what they are today. Wherever you turn, you see the results of entrepreneurship. But it is most obvious in internet commerce because this is a new industry. People that were unheard of before are becoming some of the riches names in the world and it is all because they have taken risks and have succeeded. So whether we realize it or not, it is the entrepreneurs who drive the global environment nowadays. They are the ones who are always seeking out opportunities and taking risks to improve our world and profit from it in return.

The business environment and even the technological advancements that are available today would not have been possible if these entrepreneurs did not come out of their comfort zone to invest in the development of these businesses. As you can see, having the entrepreneurial spirit is definitely necessary for businesses to reach greater heights and provide better and faster products and services to their clients. It is no wonder then that a lot of business enterprises are hiring young and dynamic individuals with a vision and who are not afraid to take calculated risks to ensure the survival of the business tomorrow.

Warning – Don't Even Think About Playing Football With an Injured Knee Until You Have Gotten a Brace

Friday, March 27th, 2009

your knees (or your child’s knees) hold up during the game of football?

Whether you play flag football, two hand touch, or full tackle football some things remain the same…

You want to win! – This involves you pushing yourself. – We both know that.

Unfortunately, all it takes is for your foot to be planted and you twist your leg to pop a ligament in your knee. Otherwise, if you did not hurt your knee by yourself, the injury might actually be the result of a traumatic incident. For example, someone hits you from the side or from an angle which forces your knee into an awkward position to the point where you hear a “Pop”! There are moments when you might not hear any noise, when your ACL is injured, but when you try to move you will find that your knee instability “has flown out the window”! – We are willing to bet that you do not want to stumble around until your knee heals itself, do you?

Knee braces for the sport of football can be extremely effective. They do not have to be custom made either, contrary to what some people may tell you. Custom made knee supports can be effective in providing you with stability. This is true… but they can also be effective at tearing a hole into your wallet as well! – Most of the time, well designed non-custom knee braces fit extremely well, unless you have a knee shape that is abnormal. This is not the case for the vast majority of people. Don’t forget this point. This is a very effective tip at saving some serious cash, while you are on your way to protecting that knee of yours.

In the end, the choice is yours. You can opt to invest in a knee support, or you can choose to go without one. Just remember this, the game moves at a quick pace. The game also demands respect. If you (or your child) develops a knee injury, “the season” may come to an abrupt stop. Surgery can be an effective treatment method, but how many times have you heard the phrase “season ending surgery”? – Whether your knee injury is severe or minimal, or you do not have one yet, it is a good idea for you to consider getting one for improved support and protection. They can really help to provide you with meaningful support that can prevent damaging movements from occurring. – Do yourself (or your child) a big favor by treating your knee pain or instability problems today. You don’t want to look back six months from now with any regrets.
