Super Mafia Land Flash Game

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

If you are a fan of free games and spend some serious time online, playing flash games, then it is most likely that you know the Super Mafia Land. It is a remake, or homage if you prefer, to the famous Super Mario Games. The Mafia Land looks pretty much like the Super Mario, in a well redesigned package.

In fact, if you used to play the Super Mario Brothers 2, then you remember some of the major characters there; you will find them in Super Mafia Land flash game as well. Phantos, for instance, and Birdos are present. You will see them running around, as always, shooting eggs. The atmosphere and game play are quite similar as well. There are many tips and hints that can help a player who is new to super Mafia, but if you knew Mario, then you know that there are veggies and other items available as you go, which can help you deal effectively with your enemies and the monsters that pop up. The characters’ names are Bruno and Giuseppe.

Your goal and task in this flash game is to run, jump hurdles and obstacles, and somehow figure out how to make your way across a land full of mobsters and enemies. The funny thing is that, as in Mario Brothers 2, the enemies exist just to make your life harder; they do not have any practical reason to exist, other than that. Vegetation is your best ally in your effort to toss the enemies away. If you injure yourself, you can collect fruits that can help you heal. There are several gateways that can help you escape. Your mustachioed man will make it if you are fast, clever and jump whenever you are supposed to, higher than your enemies. In any case, your goal is to save yourself and the world.

The game play is simple. In order to move around you use the arrow keys. No mouse is allowed or practical in this case. The Up arrow key will help you climb when needed and jump, the down arrow key to duck and Power Jump, and the ‘A” will help you pick up whatever you need from the ground and run.

The game moves nicely. Graphics are good, as expected in a free flash game of that kind. The environment is nicely made and the entire atmosphere is rather easy and cutesy. You will be able to select one of three available characters, although one of them is Mario-like. Don’t be frustrated if you don’t get past the first level, because the mob boss is quite dangerous and hard to beat. At least for those who haven’t played Super Mario before, the beginning could be a little daunting, as the boss seems relatively unbeatable. Don’t give up though. If you are an already experienced Mario player, then you have your own secrets and know what to do and how.

The Super Mafia Land flash game is a really fun game to play. Go online and enjoy your free flash game. Especially if you are a Mario fan, you will love this.

Mario Games

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

When I think of what to write about Mario games, I can’t help but think about just how much they actually define a new kind of culture driven by groups of people who are motivated to a certain degree by self-fulfillment, nostalgia, and a desire to experience something old being made new.  They do this by using their talents to accomplish their dream of creating new games with the help of an old friend who is constantly and faithfully being made new with the passing of time and the development of new gaming technology. We live in a time when Mario games are no longer confined merely to consoles and cartridges but can now be found anywhere there is an Internet connection and can be created by anyone motivated enough to learn even the basics of game design or computer programming.

Today, many gamers take advantage of existing graphics, sprites, and game engines to put there own twist on their favorite games and game concepts. Of course, you will find varying styles and quality depending on the preference and skill of your respective gamer/developer, and while this gaming format does not guarantee that you will always find the best game play, it allows many to live out their dream of becoming a developer.

These developers publish Web sites (and you’re probably on one now) that archive their Mario games and the games of other developers, making all Mario games available to the Internet community at the click of a mouse.  The production of these Web sites results in a twofold opportunity: on one side, the developer gets a sense of fulfillment from knowing that a relatively large group of people will experience his work; on the other side, that group of people will get that fuzzy nostalgic feeling and experience the old being made new before their very eyes.

The Mario games that are being developed for the Web are all 2-D games that emulate the graphics from the original Donkey Kong to the New Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo DS, borrowing sprites from such games with similar game play, but you can also find much different game play/modes. Of course, you have the classic side-scroll games, but you also have puzzles and novelty games, timed games and endless games, and Mario games in which you have infinite chances to achieve ultimate victory.

People do what they want when they make these games. There are games where Mario and Luigi have guns, and other games are holiday themed. Some add blood and have Mario or Luigi’s head fall off when they die, and some replace Mario with Sonic the Hedgehog. There are also games that emulate other classics and replace the original sprites and templates with Mario ones, making them in most respects Mario games.

For the most part, you will see all the original themes when playing these Mario games: Mario universe good guys fighting Mario universe bad guys with the same classic Mario universe variations on clouds, bushes, coins, pipes, blocks, hills, trees, and castles as props and backgrounds. All in all, this is a good thing. Granted that not all of these games are going to be great or even good, it is worth while even if you only have a slight interest in Mario games to play them when you get a chance. Get a little taste of the culture that springs from an icon that is almost 30 years old and continues to grow and shape the imaginations of millions and millions of gamers and game developers around the world. And when you do it, have fun!

Super Mario – a Short History

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Super Mario is a classic game series created by Nintendo Entertainment System. It stars an Italian plumber called Mario and his brother Luigi. In most of the games, players are required to finish each level to be able to proceed to the other. In one of the games, the objective of it is to save Princess Peach from the hands of Bowser which is the ruler of the Koopas. The game could be played by two players as well as one.

Super Mario Bros could be considered one of the most successful games ever created as it has more than 40 million copies of it sold. This game may be the backbone of Nintendo’s success in the gaming world as it survived during the video game crash during the 1980s. Due to the overwhelming success of Super Mario, the Mario Brothers are officially Nintendo’s highest known mascot. Even its theme music is well known by a lot of people. It has been well used by a lot of video games as well.

There are additional items that would aid them with their quests. By collecting 100 coins, the life of the character would be increased by one. By collecting a certain mushroom, the characters will turn larger and these characters would be called Super Mario or Luigi. These characters are able to take two hits before losing one of their lives. There are numerous other “upgrades” available and should only require you to check them out by playing the games. Players would also be playing in different worlds where each world has its own sub-level as well. At the last world and at the last level, they would then fight the last boss and victory would mean the end of the game.

Super Mario also has a lot of versions released by Nintendo. Though the graphic gets slightly better by each of the new version coming out, the game play stays the same. The game might be the one that you play just to kill time. Other than that, it may not be so interesting.

However, there are also car racing games that are starred by characters available in the Mario games. You can find these racing games in arcades. The graphics of it are also much better. You can choose your driver and get upgrades and keep track of them in a card which is available for you to buy on the machine itself. It is very enjoyable to play it with your friends and family members or even just by yourself.

Super Mario games are available in a lot of platform such as the GameBoy Advance, Famicom Disk System, NES and many others. There are also flash game versions of Super Mario available for download. Checkout Mario Games Online for free online games to play.
